My Affair

I’ve been having an affair, and to be quite honest, I can’t wait to divulge everything about it.  This affair has been one of my most delicious and satisfying experiences in a long time, so of course I want to share the love with you.  It’s going to take more than one post to fill you in, though I’m positive it will be worth it.

Adults toss around wise phrases like “no two loves are the same” and I’m learning as I get older that it really is true.  You can love more than once in your life, and each will be different.  It’s not a competition or a comparison or any sort of one versus another; it just is.  One love nourishes and progresses, another may need more, which you are willing and wanting to give.  Some are roller coasters, and yet others are the perfect lazy river to float down side by side, holding hands.  This relationship, the one I want to tell you about, has been simultaneously butterfly-inducing and deeply calming.  Polar opposite, yet perfectly complementing and wholly satisfying.

How Soon Good Things Come to An End

Like many affairs, this one will be coming to an end sometime soon in the future.  I can both feel it and am planning for it, the way you do when you know in your gut that the tides are shifting.  This encounter will be one I look back on with fond nostalgia, but it will also continue to push me forward with a silent sort of distant support and kindness only those involved can ever understand.  I have experienced something similar with a past love.  The first time was more tumultuous – as first times often are.  This time I am preparing, knowing what is coming and how things will change.  I understand how to navigate this transition, not because it is the same as the ones before, but because I understand life and its brilliance just a little bit more this time around.

If this post is elusive, it’s only because crafting the story is as important as sharing it…but I couldn’t wait to whisper in your ear that I have a story to share.  After all, who doesn’t love a love story?
