I’ve spent a lot of the last 2 years at home eat I’ve spent a lot of the last 2 years at home eating my way around the world to stave off the travel blues. Lucky for me, Waterloo Region’s food scene is pretty diverse and flavourful. There’s been no shortage of opportunities to explore through taste.

Yesterday’s Kitchener Market haul is a great example of the options we have in right here in our backyard. I enjoyed homemade empanadas from @kwempanadas and local peach cider from @heartwoodcidery and both were awesome.

While I’m grateful for the little things like our local restaurants over the course of this pandemic so far, I’ve got to say I’m thrilled (and a bit overwhelmed) to get back on a plane this week. It’s time to spread my wings again and I hope you’ll enjoy the ride with me!

Any guesses where I’m off to? What questions do you have about travel right now?

Peekaboo! I love the creativity in St. Thomas., On Peekaboo! I love the creativity in St. Thomas., Ontario

Instead of sticking to only walls for their Track to the Future mural project this past year, the artists found different surfaces to play with, like this jagged rock.

Another thing I love about #TracktotheFuture is that there are different collections throughout the outdoor gallery. For example, there's the:

📘 Elgin County Historic Murals
🖌️ Contemporary Murals
🚆 Boxcar Murals
🐘 Elephant Trail Murals

Historically it's not too new to see painted rail cars, though typically it's graffiti which has a different feel and connotation than a commissioned mural (both are pretty cool, imho). I came across St. Thomas' Boxcar Murals in 2020 by accident when looking for Ontario's Longest Small Town Train Station for my Ontario 160 Unusual travel series. There's more information about both of these awesome attractions on the blog.

The Historic Murals cover the settler history of St. Thomas, focusing on the impact of the railways on the town and the world wars.

The Contemporary Murals have exploded onto the downtown scene over the last few years and span a much wider range of topics and artistic styles.

And last but not least, are the Elephant Trail Murals which pay homage to Jumbo the Elephant who tragically passed away while in St. Thomas (more on that on the blog too). All of the murals are kid-friendly but I think if you have wee ones it could be so much fun to tell them you're going on an elephant treasure hunt! Plus these are spread further out around the city and you just may stumble upon some other St. Thomas gems.

I'd love to hear which ones are your favourite when you visit or after you read the blog! Drop them in the comments below.

What do you think of when you hear the city name " What do you think of when you hear the city name "St. Thomas"?

If you asked me this question 1 year ago I probably would have said something like "it's near London" and that would be it. Today there is a LOT more that comes to mind and I love recommending people go visit!

Among many other things, St. Thomas is an extremely creative city that supports its artists creating art in the community, for the community.

Over this past year, the city has absolutely blossomed once more, thanks to @railwaycitytourism , @youngandfreepress , generous community members, and several extremely talented artists who grew the city's outdoor gallery with the #TracktotheFuture mural project.

If you haven't been to St. Thomas before, it's time you make a plan to visit. This is a place full of dreamers and doers and I don't know of a more exciting combo than that!

For a downloadable map and more information on each of the 30+ murals, visit https://www.travelwithtmc.com/street-art-in-st-thomas/ . Oh and stay tuned for tomorrow's reel. You're going to want to save and share this one for future adventures foooor sure!😉

I hope you ghouls and gals had a wonderful and fun I hope you ghouls and gals had a wonderful and fun Halloween!

Last night I went to a Paranormal Investigation and @homerwatsonhouse put on by @the_ontario_paranormal_society . It was interesting and informative though no ghosts were seen. I’d love to have been a fly on the wall when Homer Watson and his good ol’ buddy William Lyon Mackenzie King would hold their seances!!!

What do you think? Do spirits exist? Would you visit a psychic or medium (or both)?

Talk about a forest floor carpet. Just beautiful!! Talk about a forest floor carpet. Just beautiful!!!

"Everyone has a water." I heard this once o "Everyone has a water."

I heard this once on a podcast or radio show and couldn't agree more. In fact, I know I've shared this quote at another time, I just can't remember where or with who so I'm sharing it again!

My water is hands down fresh water lakes. I grew up going to our family camp just north of the Soo (#campnotcottage) on the shores of Lake Superior. I'll take a refreshing lake over a salty ocean any day, but a view or the sound of water anywhere makes me smile, calms me down, and energizes every bit of my being.

Do you have a water? If so, have you ever thought about why that's your water? Maybe you even travel for water, as so many people do for sun!
